Motility means active movement of a living cell or tissue, active
meaning that it moves itself. Mobility is also the ability to move, but does not necessarily connote active movement and therefore more commonly applies to limbs, bones,
and things which are moved (by, for instance, muscles) but do not really move
themselves as motile cells do.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
"mobility" is talking about whether something moves or
not, and "motility" is talking about the degree of movement (it being
a given already that it is "mobile"). I know we describe the movement of micro-organisms under a
microscope in terms of type/degree of "motility". They are obviously mobile. Any one organism can be "mobile" or "motile",
but probably only non-animate objects can be considered mobile.
